Detours and Hot Springs

We ate dinner at our resort. It gets dark around 6pm, so we tend to go to bed absurdly early. It rained hard all night, but we woke up to a dry sunny day. 

Breakfast is a huge plate of fresh fruit (pineapple, papaya, banana, cantaloupe, and watermelon). Brian has been insisting that we don't waste any of it. Today I also had French toast with salsa de chocolate. 

Seriously, I think we are the only people in Costa Rica. We were the lone riders on the boat back to La Pavona. Our boat driver wanted to set some new driving record, and we were back to the car in a blink. We each paid a dollar to use the restroom.

The first stretch of road is unpaved and chock full of potholes. This is a skill set that Brian has (we were singing John Denver's "Thank God I'm a country boy..."

The GPS was helpful until we came to road construction in the mountains. The detour was unmarked, and we had to veer off on dirt roads. There was a stream of traffic, so my theory was to go with everyone else. After a few random turns, there was a cardboard sign to the town we were trying to get to, so we headed in that direction. Sure enough, we were back in the right direction. Of course, we were both thirsty, starving, and we needed to use the banos. Finally, we found a service station and used the restroom and bought a couple of drinks. We had filled up with gas earlier... We paid $78 for gas and our tank was far from empty. This was the first time we had to fill up.

Getting to our hotel, El Silencio del Campo, was easy, and the receptionist was nice. She was even impressed I knew some Spanish (although it is pretty limited). Jill and Derek stayed here, and it is a nice place. Brian is happy it is air conditioned and it has a flat screen tv (he's watching basketball).

We had lunch/dinner at the hotel, and then we went to Jill's happy place, The Springs, to play in their hot springs pools. This was the gift Jill gave us for Christmas, in the form of a diorama. The spas were wonderful, and we are going back there tomorrow after repelling down waterfalls. They have animals and pools. 

Now, we are just relaxing in our hotel room. Brian is happy that we don't have to drive anywhere the next few days (except back to The Springs on a seriously treacherous road.
