Rappelling Down Canyon Walls

We had our usual fruit for breakfast and then we were picked up for our rappelling  down waterfalls. Jill and Derek did this excursion with Pure Trek a few years ago, so we had high expectations. The van picked us up and then we transferred to 4x4 trucks to get to the top of the mountain. There were lots of workers to help us rappel down three waterfalls and a dry canyon. There were maybe 30 people, but things moved quickly.  The same Indian family that was at Tortugerero shared our ride.  We were given waterproof jackets, helmets, harnesses, and gloves. After a short hike, we arrived at the first waterfall. This was the longest rappel, and Brian was visibly nervous, although after the first descent, he was enjoying himself. It was raining during the first drop, but like most showers here, it didn't last very long. My favorite descent was the last one, as there were fewer rocks to negotiate and we could fly down. It was fun to critique other people's rappels. We got back on the 4x4 and then went down to La Fortuna for lunch.  I got to pet a jaguar (except maybe it was just a housecat).  We ate a typical Costa Rican lunch; Brian liked the hot cocoa best.

When we got back to the hotel, we changed into swimming gear and headed back to The Springs.
